Kaël Fontaine

September 23rd 2004 – December 17th 2005

Smiling, lighthearted, fizzy… Kaël was a little boy full of “joie de vivre”... Deceased at the age of 15 months, from respiratory distress, complications of his Jonctionnal Epidermolysis Bullosa…

Kaël was born with open blisters on his fingers and wounds in his mouth… In the following hours… wounds on his toes and buttom appeared… and the following days new blisters were always coming out… The first months were very difficults… Kaël was also having breathing diffculties because his œsophagus was badly hurt since he was 4 months old… Kaël’s short but intense life was scattered  of visits to the hospitals and hospitalizations...

Despite his constant suffering, Kaël was always smiling and playing… He loved to play ball and tom-tom with his big brother Joshua… play some peek-a-boo… He loved to be outside… to watch birds fly… to feel the breeze in his hair… to go for a stroll in in the woods or in the streets… to go see outdoor music shows dancing on mommy’s thighs…

Kaël was smilling all the time… even during the dressings changes… sitting one the kitchen table… he was streching his neck to see where his big brother was… and playing music with his maracas…

Kaël is an inspiration source for many people around me and for us… His strenght and « joie de vivre »… innocente and pure… He was an angel sent to show us what real LOVE is… to teach us to see all the beautiful things in life… and to learn how to manage our time… to take the opportunity to have the more time possible with the ones we love …

The morning of Kaël's death… the sky was covered with clouds… but when he passed away… the clouds moved away and the sun shined brightly and Kaël flew away in the blue sky…

Kaël’s smiles will be our more precious souvenirs…
Annie… Kaël’s mom… the little butterfly-angel
